One of the greatest challenges
a parent can face after divorce is learning how to navigate the requirements of co-parenting. While a few parents manage
well and experience minimal conflict, divorce rates for second marriage hover around 60% according to divorcerate.org and
the Stepfamily Resource Center Fact Sheet. Our research project tells us that wounded, unruly stepchildren, uncooperative ex-husbands
or ex-wives, insecure stepmoms or impatient stepfathers, disengaged moms and dads, child-custody re-litigation and its resulting
financial strain are all factors in this divorce rate. Some parents are known for child custody interference, parental
alienation behaviors and, fearing loss of contact with their grandchildren, even former in-laws can make things worse. What’s
a mom, dad, or newly married couple leading a stepfamily to do to reduce the risks when all they want to be is a blended-family?
Yet, not all stepfamilies blend, many times because of a failed divorce, but it doesn't mean the union has to end. There can
